Welcome to the LAWASIA Human Rights Blog!

It gives us great pleasure to launch the LAWASIA Human Rights blog series.

Since its inception, LAWASIA has played an active role in understanding and monitoring human rights issues across the Economic and Social Commission of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) region.

The LAWASIA Human Rights Committee has, in particular, organized meetings, sessions and conferences, implemented human rights interventions including letters, and observation missions. Our inaugural LAWASIA Human Rights Conference was held in 2019, in association with the Bar Association of India, in New Delhi, India, on the theme of “State Power, Business and Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges”. Subsequent Conferences and webinars have seen robust participation and insightful interventions from experts across jurisdictions.

We envision that the Human Rights Blog series will further the LAWASIA Human Rights Committee’s mandate to commission research into human rights issues in the Asian Pacific region, and provide LAWASIA members with information on human rights.

As a regional association of lawyers and jurists, we hope to draw on our members’ expertise and interests. We hope that the blog series brings together the shared knowledge of our members and experts in the region, and also serves as a valuable resource.

We invite members to send in pitches for articles on pertinent human rights issues impacting the region. We look forward to reading your contributions!
